This short documentary of a man bent on proving the point that eating at McDonald’s fast food restaurants for Thirty days consecutive, three meals a day is a real bad thing. I find myself reevaluating my eating habits. This documentary is inundated with pathos such as “100 million people in the world are overweight and heart disease deaths second only to smoking deaths” really hit home for this observer. In a matter of just 30 days this mans weight increased a staggering 25 pounds or a total of 15% of his total body weight. I found that the graphic pictures (vomiting) to be quite convincing as to the violent affects that this type of eating behavior has on people. The increase of illness in his body I.E. headaches and nauseousness, no energy, high blood pressure just to name a few things that this experiment entailed was disgusting. I praise him for his efforts to prove his point although not very smart medically as stated by the numerous doctors cited, he did a very good job proving his point. The added ethos in this was due to his interviewing of the common people on the street as well as professionals. The piece had some anecdotal flavor to it when “Spurlock” stated ” McDonald’s on every corner (4 per square mile in Manhattan) and many Micky D’s close to hospitals at least he would be close to the medical help “When the coronary kicks in”. To say the least I was impressed with Spulock and his research because the word has to get out that eating like this is very dangerous for us as a nation…I do have some critisism’s for the pictures of many people he put on camera that seem to be obease and the way he put all of them into the same catagory, he did not give them a chance to defend themselves in any manner. The people could have had a medical reason for the extra weight they carry, for that he has a bias slant that was not fair…

This letter is a response to an written by Eric Schlosser Titled “Why McDonald’s Fries Taste So Good” posted in the Atlantic Monthly. The author is very capable of putting together a convincing and propelling arrangement of words that would probably be taken as something truthful. The way the writing is done is graceful and elegant with the language chosen but it is my opinion that as far as substance , the article lacks foundational statistical proof . The article is like eating at a new Chinese restaurant with great reviews, it is great at first beautiful new surroundings a gorgeous menu. You eat and your full at first but after you taste all of it, swallow everything and digest it it leaves you hungry an hour later. The empty calorie effect.

In response to the article author "Lambert" writes that & quote we should throw out the processed foods and don’t buy them any more" Then sell your microwave (or at least don’t use it to nuke processed foods).

My comments to this would be that although most would agree to the unsubstantiated facts of this claim that processed foods are bad for us as a whole there are some who do claim that processed milk is good for us. (things that make you say huh) that’s right if all processed foods are indeed bad for us then how do we say that the milk bought in stores is bad? Would you like to drink milk right from the cows udder? In your article you remarked of how we as consumers don’t know exactly what is in processed foods and there by attacking "ConAgra" for their undetectable ingredientsseems to be a bit bias towards "ConAgra" when there seems to be no substantial scientific proof to your allegations. Who might I ask gave you these statistics or where did they come from..I.E. research labs, primary sources maybe, or even a magazine. You also stated that increasingly"corporations that supply Americans with processed foods are unable to guarantee the safety of their ingrdients" Where are the numbers on this proclamation. Also mentioning "other companies" in this article who don’t seem to know who is supplying the ingredients. I for one would love to know where this info came from, nothing here that I read has any merit or substantiation, no fact sheets with any solid proof. Cited in your article that " Government officials concede" to having "almost every element we consume including "red meat to poultry "to be contaminated with potential pathogens". What officials? What government? In regards to the facts that the growing population of our world is requiring more food is logical but I’m not to sure of the rest of the claims made here. I have another problem with the quote made " that Con-Agra sickened 15,000 people with salmonellain 2007" also you stated that this outbreak was something that " left federal inspectors mystified" with nothing in this piece to substantiate the claim, it is hard to swallow. Con-Agra foods by your description is a huge producer of processed food by selling some "100 million potpies in 2007" if this is true then yes it serves as an upfront reminder of what the processed food industry has to offer to the millions of families that enjoy these products.

P.S. The next time you by milk from your local store just remember that ”IT IS A PROCESSED FOOD” and also remember that of the millions of families who can only afford this food in their homes you are asking them to starve!!!!!

Letter to the editor,

Dear editor this letter is in response to and in reference to a letter you received by Kerry Irons titled “Faith In science.” I for one can and do appreciate the “opinion” of this author but there are some questions to be asked of this person. I would like to know where the information comes from on the scientists referenced in the letters first paragraph. May I ask who the scientists are and who they represent IE… research labs or companies that they represent. I would also be interested in the published articles that is spoken of. The next item of interest I have is the percentages used in paragraph’s four and five IE……55% of the U.S. public and 75% of college graduates and the one that really is up for debate is the 99.8% of the grads of science claim to “reject” the “creation science”/ intelligent design position. I surely do not just believe the text written by this individual with no concreteproof of such claims. I must respond to this with a open mind that there is a possible answer to this ongoing debate by acknowledging that we have indeed evolved as a collective population of all aspects of plant, animal and the Matter of all things alive..I just have one question where did the most finite nano-molucule that is known to man come from? In my humble opinion as a science/medical student whom does believe in creation I still have enough of a open mind to except the very fact of the “theory of Evolution” as part of the life we all have and must not take for granted…
